U16s vs Liberton HS (Lismore)

Just a quick note to say well done to the U16 squad who won a tough game against Liberton High School (Lismore) on Wednesday evening in the Schools' Bowl Competition. Final score 33-28.

It was an evenly matched game with both sides playing open attacking rugby. Lismore struck first with a try under the posts, but Penicuik responded strongly with 3 unanswered tries making the score 19-7.

Penicuik finished the half with a score of their own under the sticks. HT Score 26-7

Lismore started the 2nd half strongly with 2 quick tries which were both converted making the score 26-21.

The play was very even for most of the second half with neither side scoring, until 7 minutes from the end when Lismore went over for a try under the posts.

26-28 with 7 minutes to go.

Penicuik upped their game and dominated the play and were unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions. With 2 minutes to go, Penicuik knocked on just before the line and it looked like Lismore were just going to sneak the win, but with a massive shove in the scrum, Penicuik won the ball against the head and spread it wide to score in the corner.

Great effort from the players, and a thoroughly exciting match to watch.

The U16s are now through to a home semi-final of the Bowl against Royal High School which is scheduled to be played on Wednesday 21st Nov.

It would be great to have a big home support for the boys and I will confirm dates and times as soon as they are confirmed.

Well done again lads.
