Join us this Sunday for a thrilling showdown of contrasting sporting backgrounds, the Kirkhill Oval becomes the battleground for an epic battle between 2 of Penicuik’s oldest sports clubs.
On one side, we have the seasoned and skillful cricket club, comprising a team of dedicated players who have honed their cricketing prowess over the years. On the other side, we have the formidable rugby club, a group of athletic warriors with limited cricket experience but an unyielding spirit.
Will the bragging rights return to Montgomery Park, or will Kirkhill reclaim a trophy they haven’t held since 1995??

We are very proud to release details of an annual cricket competition dating back to the 1990’s.
Historically there has been a close connection between the towns rugby and cricket clubs, a connection which continues today with a cross over of players and members.
In 1990, Jean Bain (mother of 1979 1xv captain W.A.McI.Bain (or Billy)) donated a trophy to be played for every summer between the rugby and cricket club in honour of her husband Bob Bain.
In the 80’s & 90’s, Penicuik CC regularly held a 6 a side tournament for local clubs/pubs with PRFC winning over 4/5 years. With a number of skilled cricketers in the PRFC side it was decided to test themselves every summer against the towns Cricket Side.
This event proved to be a success and the trophy was played for a further 6 times before interest wained in 1997.
Current holders of the Bob Bain Memorial Trophy, The rugby club, are looking forward to the challenge from the cricket club on Sunday the 7th July at Kirkhill.

11am – Players meet at Kirkhill
12pm – Fun inter team touch rugby/cricket
1pm – T20 Penicuik CC v Penicuik RFC
5pm – See the night away in the clubhouse
The Bob Bain memorial trophy will be presented to the winning team by Bob’s Granddaughter Lesley
