Gav McQuillan

PRFC President

At the time of this post we have just heard the terrible news of the sudden passing of Penicuik player Stuart Fleming  just after Christmas aged 41.

Stuart was a popular member of our 2xv squad and although self employed, also found the time to coach our mini section.  Stuart and his wife Tricia were frequent visitors in the clubhouse and fully embraced the Penicuik rugby family before recently moving down to Newton Stewart.

Whatever you are personally going through at this time please take a pause to remember Stuart and think of his wife Tricia, and young family Abbey, Freya, Harvey & Mason at this difficult time.

As we reach the end of the year it’s an opportunity to reflect on 2022 and look forward to the New Year with optimism and excitement. Looking back this year has been one of progress made possible by the many many people who have been generous with their time and talents over the last 12months. Too many to mention,it’s what continues to make us successful.

It’s been a positive year for sponsorship and I would like to thank all our partners for their continued support which is critical in helping us thrive as a club. Finally to all our players across all age groups and teams, playing rugby is why we are here and it’s been great to see how things on the playing side have developed this year – thank you all for your continued commitment week in week out!!

As we enter our 99th year as a club we will continue to progress in a substantial, positive way focusing on keeping things simple and enjoyable. With a clear focus on growing the playing side of the club alongside developing our facilities and planning for our centenary it promises to be another exciting year. As always if you have ideas and energy to help please get in touch.

Have a great New Year.

Duncan Fell

PRFC Club Captain

Its been a crazy couple of years and 2022 has been no exception but the Rugby Club has been there for us all for that I’d like to thank the committee for their tireless work to keep the doors open.

What has excited me in ’22 and what I look forward to in ’23 is the continued development of our ‘young team’ in both 1st and 2nd XVs. Guys like Oscar Malone, John Graham and Andrew Cartwright  stepping up and making a positive impact. The fact we can consistently put 2 high quality teams out each week says that we are a club that players want to play for.

Finally the introduction of Player Sponsorship this has been a fantastic way for the club to engage with the wider community and I look forward to seeing this grow in 2023.

Here’s to more on and off field successes in 2023 from the Micros, Minis and Midis through the Youth Teams and to the 1sts and 2nds.

Happy New Year PRFC Family.
