Season 2023/24
Wow!! what a season of rugby we have had..
We kicked off in August with pre-season games at home to Portobello (1xv) and Livingston (2xv), whilst our U14’s & U16’s started their new seasons with games against Dalkeith, and our mini’s held their open day to attract more players click to see- Play Rugby
September seen the 1xv open their league campaign with a great away win down at Duns and we showed the 2023 World Cup (remember that??) and our mini’s hosted over 300 players for the Greenstone Energy Mini Rugby Festival https://penicuikrugby.org/portfolio-items/greenstone-energy-mini-rugby-festival/?portfolioCats=10
October we launched our mini mascot to lead out our senior sides on Saturday afternoons and our 1xv continued their unbeaten start to the season with a great win over Hawick Linden. Click to watch – 1xv v Linden and our mini section hosted their annual Halloween party.
November seen the club continuing its Friday tea time Kids Birthday Party bookings. Click for more – Jess 9th Birthday
whilst the 1xv continued to score tries for fun –Penicuik v Duns
and Our rugby family rallied when our pitches were vandalised to quickly repair the damage (massive thanks Sandy) https://penicuikrugby.org/pitch-update/
We also welcomed our former players to the clubhouse an afternoon of rugby memories https://penicuikrugby.org/this-weekends-penicuik-rugby-6/
And our mini’s welcomed neighbours Dalkeith – minisdalkeith
December our mini’s were selected to lead out Edinburgh Rugby v Castre in the EPCR Challenge Cup at Hive Stadium – mini@mini whilst the rest of December was wet and snow ruling out much rugby. Our mini’s held their annual xmas party whilst we held a fantastic poker tournament for members on Dec the 29th
We welcomed Jan 2024 with our annual burns supper however our 1xv started to mis-fire and we launched our undercover player match report, we sneaked peaks out of our centenary strips (still work in progress, massive apologies) and our members came together to take part in the Doddie Challenge.
February was all about the 6 Nations, and we launched our weekly club history posts looking back at previous teams and players.
March seen our U16’s joining forces with Murrayfield Wanderers and Leith to head to Kelso for the Semi Final of The U16 East Shield. Unfortunately a last minute conversation resulted in the game being tied, the rule being the in the event of a draw the team scoring first would win.
Our mini sectioned looked to hit tv show Gladiators for improving their rugby technique – minigaldiators
Our 1xv recorded a 65-21 away win Hawick Linden, however some horrendous losses to Dunbar & Dalkeith ruined any chances of league success
We started April with our Centenary Match against Lismore : – Centenary Day Highlights the match day programme can be found here – centenary
And we ended April with the 57th McKenzie Skip Hire Rugby 7’s Tournament : – 2024 mckenzie skip hire Penicuik sevens
May seen the launch of a brand new initiative from our Midi section with out Teenage Rugby Touch Tournament (TRT) this was a fantastic tournament capped with a Grand Final held on a summers evening on Hunter & Lass Monday.
