Thanks to Macwood Fuels—suppliers of kiln dry logs, stave and kindling for your home fires—we’re proud to highlight the players who’ve lit up the pitch with their points-scoring power.

From scorching tries to cool-headed kicks, every score has added fuel to the fire of Penicuik pride. Just like Macwood’s logs, our players have kept the heat burning strong week after week.

Hunters Shine in Edinburgh

On Sunday, our Hunters proudly followed in the footsteps of the 1XV, making their way to Union Park in Edinburgh to face Corstorphine.

While the senior side had battled hard the day before, our young players truly rose to the occasion — showing grit, determination, and teamwork on what proved to be heavy ground.

It was a performance full of effort and spirit, the kind that makes parents and coaches alike beam with pride. Just like our friends at Oval 4×4

(Oval 4×4 – Land Rover and Jaguar Specialists)

, who specialise in keeping Land Rovers and Jaguars running smoothly, our Hunters showed they can handle tough conditions and keep driving forward no matter the terrain.

🐆 Panthers Weekend Report

With Stew Mel unable to field an U14s side, it was fantastic to team up at short notice with Lasswade/Boroughmuir for a joint training session and games. 🙌

After a lively warm‑up, the girls enjoyed handling and evasion drills — plus a bit of sumo wrestling for fun. They were eager to move on to matches (and we were keen to dodge the rain!), so we kept things short and sharp.

We played two 15‑minute games, lending Lassmuir a couple of our players to balance the numbers. The Panthers started brightly, showing positive attacking runs and excellent ball presentation. Emma, Layla, and Elsa each produced memorable individual scores, and it was great to see the squad working hard to secure possession — a key focus in recent weeks.

As the games went on, Lassmuir’s strong individuals grew in confidence and physicality. Our girls began to tire, but they still produced plenty of standout moments in both attack and defence. Layla impressed with some smart steals, India and Eva added their names to the scoresheet, Ava secured vital ball, while Grace and Julia made strong forward runs.

There were highlights across the board, even if a few bumps and bruises came with them. A special mention goes to Evie, who made her debut for the Panthers today — well done! 👏👏👏

And congratulations to Ella Dawn, our Panther of the Week. She worked tirelessly in attack and defence, showing maturity well beyond her years — it’s easy to forget she’s still primary school age when she mixes it so confidently with the older girls. 🐆

Just like our sponsors Perfect Clean, who specialise in keeping workplaces spotless, the Panthers showed they can scrub up brilliantly under pressure, tidy up possession, and polish off some sparkling tries.

Panthers Midweek Session Report

It was another strong turnout tonight, with 17 girls taking part — including a warm welcome to Faith on her first session 👋. With so many Panthers in the hall, the energy (and the noise!) was fantastic 🔊.

We kicked things off with a “mat surfing” warm‑up, which didn’t quite go to plan, so we quickly pivoted to some lively relay races 🏃‍♀️. From there, the girls moved into a handling and movement game — Bank Ball 💸 — before focusing on handling drills. Geoff led a particularly valuable exercise on carrying hard through contact, helping the girls build confidence and strength in close quarters.

We wrapped up the evening with short touch games 🏉, giving everyone a chance to put their skills into practice and finish on a high.

Panthers on the Prowl – Girls Rugby Evolution Series This Weekend!

Sponsored by Perfect Clean – keeping our rugby spotless and our standards sky-high!

This Sunday, our Panthers travel to Leith to continue their rugby journey .

Its a 10am meet for a 1pm start

Oh and Panthers….Coach Dave knows this Leith pitch very very very well……

🐆 Panthers Upcoming Opportunities

We’re delighted to share some fantastic events on the horizon for our Panthers!

31st January – Tournament at The Hive, Murrayfield. Our girls have been invited to take part in a tournament at The Hive, following the standard format of competitive fixtures. After the matches, players will enjoy complimentary entry to watch the Edinburgh Women’s team in action — with the exciting possibility of taking part in guard‑of‑honour duties. This promises to be a memorable day, combining rugby development with inspiration from elite women’s sport.

15th March – Hosting Our Own Tournament. We’re proud to announce that the Panthers have been invited to host a tournament here at home. This is a brilliant opportunity to showcase our club, welcome visiting teams, and create a vibrant rugby atmosphere for players and families alike. To make this event a success, we’ll need the support of our community — so we’d love to see parents and volunteers get involved.

Both dates are ones to mark in your diaries. These occasions highlight the exciting pathway rugby offers young girls: competitive play, unforgettable experiences, and the chance to be part of something bigger.

A Historic First for Penicuik Women’s Rugby

Sunday morning marked a milestone moment for our WXV side as they unveiled the first ever Penicuik‑branded, tailored playing strip designed specifically for women’s rugby.

Gone are the days of heavy cotton  Midlothian ladies strips of the noughties — this new kit represents progress, pride, and a perfect fit for our players. With sleek design and modern tailoring, it’s a strip that celebrates both performance and identity.

Our squad swapped their everyday gear for the new jerseys and took to the catwalk to show off their fresh stash, embodying the confidence and spirit that this kit was made to inspire.

This isn’t just a shirt — it’s a statement. A statement that Penicuik Women’s Rugby is here, growing stronger, and proudly stepping into its own.

Check their promotional video below that hit their social channels on Thursday.

🏉 1XV Match & League Update (Sponsored by McKenzie Skip Hire)

On Saturday our 1xv travelled to Union Park to face a Corstorphine side still in with a shout of winning the league.  Corstorphine are always a tough side at home and this was known to the Penicuik Men.

The 1xv were on the back foot before kick off with the very late withdrawal of 2 players, which left the bench looking empty and certainly nothing in reserve should back up be required.

Ultimately, the larger more powerful side won, with the ability to swap and change players to maximise energy reserves it was no surprise to read a final score of 71-7 in favour of the home team.

This Saturday, our 1XV head to South Gyle to face Forrester.

The early game in the season seen the Edinburgh men win in the final moments with several “very soft” tries securing the win, where Penicuik seemed to have the game under control.

With both sides in a relegation fight, it’ll be the winner here who will start 2026 with a chance to survive the drop.

Forrester will have the touchline rammed with supporters as they host their past players & members Christmas lunch beforehand.  Our players will need to channel the touchline energy and convert this into a stand out performance in their final game of 2025.

Word on the street (or should we say, down the clubhouse corridor…) is that the selectors still haven’t quite mastered the art of communication. Luckily, an Elf on the Shelf crash‑landed in the social media office this morning with a leaked copy of the starting line‑up.

So while the squad reveal may have snuck out the back channels again, at least we can all enjoy the festive mischief. Here’s hoping Santa delivers a seamless service of communication by 2026

Selected squad to travel –

Around the League

  • Corstorphine moved back to 2nd following their impressive win over our 1xv, their game this Saturday against RHS has already been postponed to a later date

  • Hawick Quins, jumped back to 4th over Leith, following their mighty 83-21 win over Forresters, depriving the South Gyle men of a losing bonus point

  • Earlston and Leith had their games postponed, extending the season now to the 18th April

  • Leith welcome Earlston to the academy looking to take back 4th from Hawick

  • Hawick travel to league leaders Livingston, hoping to the be the first club to inflict a defeat on the West Lothian Side
