Important information for all members.
As of Monday 2nd March we will no longer be accepting cash for payment at the club bar.
Since we introduced the ability to pay by card a few years ago, the percentage of cash payments has been slowly decreasing to a point where it is now less than 10% of our total bar income. However it still requires significant effort to count and reconcile every month and also to bank cash and manage floats.
In conjunction with this, we will also be investigating new point of sale systems which can link directly to our card readers and thereby reduce the scope for error. A new POS system may also enble us to implement features such as specific pricing for members versus non-members etc..
Please contact (Andrew Mitchell, Vice President, via Facebook or Instant Messenger) or e-mail us at treasurer@penicuikrugby.org if you have any questions or issues with this proposed change. We will also be posting notices around the club to ensure that everyone is made aware of this before it is implemented.
Additionally, as announced at the autumn budget 2025 the government will change duty on alcoholic products from the 1st February 2026. This will increase in line with the Retail Price Index. We will be reviewing our pricing and will communicate any changes when the new POS system goes live.

MacWood Fuels Player Points
As the nights draw in and the temperature drops, Penicuik RFC’s attack has kept the scoreboard glowing all season long. Thanks to Macwood Fuels—suppliers of kiln dry logs, stave and kindling for your home fires—we’re proud to highlight the players who’ve lit up the pitch with their points-scoring power.
From scorching tries to cool-headed kicks, every score has added fuel to the fire of Penicuik pride. Just like Macwood’s logs, our players have kept the heat burning strong week after week.
So whether it’s warming your hearth at home or heating up the scoreboard at the weekend, remember:
All we need is fuel… Macwood Fuels! https://www.macwoodfuels.com

Panthers Girls Weekly Update – Supported by Perfect Clean
Sunday – Sunshine, Smiles and Serious Effort
The weather held out and so did the energy, giving us a brilliant Sunday session.
We kicked things off with mobility and speed work (including a foot race where Elsa left the coach in her dust). From there the girls moved into defensive mirroring, sharpening their tracking and footwork, before getting stuck into some controlled wrestling to build strength and confidence.
Geoff then unleashed a Gladiators‑inspired Powerball tackle game, with Grace taking the win and strong performances from Elsa, Layla and Libby. The girls loved it.
We rounded things off with a contact game, focusing on resetting quickly in attack and defence at every breakdown. A special moment came when the girls stepped in as non‑contact defenders for the women’s team — a brilliant experience and a glimpse of where their rugby journey can lead.
A few bumps and bruises, but nothing this tough group can’t handle. No single Panther of the Week — because the effort across the board was excellent
Monday – Skills, Structure and Serious Graft
A lively start soon settled into a focused session with 13 Panthers working hard.
Ava led a strong mobility warm‑up, before we moved into a spin‑pass drill, working on pushing the ball from the hip with power and accuracy. The improvement was clear.
Next came a rucking drill in groups of four, focusing on clearing out a jackal — and the girls absolutely nailed it. We finished with a scrag game, reinforcing breakdown security and using the “bulldogs” technique we’ve been developing recently.
A top‑quality effort from everyone.
Wednesday – Indoors, Energised and Full of Fun
With frost outside, we were grateful for an indoor session — and 16 Panthers turned up ready to go.
We opened with a jackal relay race, followed by Ava leading the group through mobility stretches. Then came two lively rounds of Sharks and Fishes — Julia took the first win, Emma the second, though the TMO was mysteriously unavailable.
Dave then ran a 2‑on‑1 drill, and after a few runs the girls really found their rhythm. We wrapped up with another high‑tempo scrag game, full of enthusiasm and teamwork.
The excitement for Saturday’s event is building — and it shows.
This Weekend
All our girls are delighted to travel to The Hive stadium (Mini Murrayfield) to take part in the Edinburgh Evolution series on Saturday morning.
After the session they will stay and watch Edinburgh Women play Brython with 2 lucky Penicuik Panthers taking part in the pre-game guard of honour and to represent the club in the half time pitch walk.
We look forward to all the videos and pictures from this fantastic occasion
🐆 Panthers Upcoming Opportunities
We’re delighted to share some fantastic events on the horizon for our Panthers!
15th March – Hosting Our Own Tournament. We’re proud to announce that the Panthers have been invited to host a tournament here at home. This is a brilliant opportunity to showcase our club, welcome visiting teams, and create a vibrant rugby atmosphere for players and families alike. To make this event a success, we’ll need the support of our community — so we’d love to see parents and volunteers get involved.
Both dates are ones to mark in your diaries. These occasions highlight the exciting pathway rugby offers young girls: competitive play, unforgettable experiences, and the chance to be part of something bigger.
Why Not Join the Panthers?
If your daughter is looking for confidence, fitness, friendship and fun, the Panthers Girls offer a welcoming, supportive environment where every player grows. No experience needed — just enthusiasm.
Thanks to Perfect Clean, our girls section continues to shine on and off the pitch
Midi Rugby Weekly Update
Brilliant shift from all our Midis this week. We split into U14s and U16s tonight, both groups grafting hard on positioning, handling, and communication.
Safe to say the highlight was the moment the boys were told, “Aye, you’re actually allowed to shout here!” — absolute chaos and pure joy followed.
A few things to keep on your radar:
1. Bring‑a‑Buddy Month is coming in February!
Every player who brings a friend (or a whole squad of them) to training goes into a draw for a voucher. Simple as that.
2. The Plank Challenge
Not compulsory… but every coach is doing it, so the boys might as well get stuck in too. Bragging rights are on the line.
3. Fantasy Six Nations League
We’re setting up a league for the lads to battle it out. Prize for the champion, glory for the winner, and plenty of chat guaranteed. More details coming soon.
1xv
Last weekend the 1xv put in a great shift over at Livingston. The 54-15 scoreline doesn’t reflect the effort this group of lads put in.
With only a squad of 17 against a heavy side, it was always going to be tough ask especially after injuries and yellow cards seen the Montgomery Park side play with 13 for long periods to the game.
Livingston exploiting the extra space on the pitch to secure the win.
No Match this weekend, with all efforts now on the remaining fixture at home to Hawick Quinns on the 7th Feb.

Around the League
-
Corstorphine ran in 41-10 at home to Earlston, in a match referred by own Andy Law (who still showed he has that dynamic acceleration)
-
This weekend its a top of the table clash at Union Park with Corstorphine on 44 going head to head against Livingston who are on 39 but crucially have a game in hand and a 12pt score difference.

2xv

Our 2xv try and make it 3rd time lucky in this re-arranged fixture at home to Boroughmuir Bears.
Kick off is 2pm at Montgomery Park.
