Important information for all members.

As of Monday 2nd March we will no longer be accepting cash for payment at the club bar.

Since we introduced the ability to pay by card a few years ago, the percentage of cash payments has been slowly decreasing to a point where it is now less than 10% of our total bar income. However it still requires significant effort to count and reconcile every month and also to bank cash and manage floats.

In conjunction with this, we will also be investigating new point of sale systems which can link directly to our card readers and thereby reduce the scope for error. A new POS system may also enble us to implement features such as specific pricing for members versus non-members etc..

Please contact  (Andrew Mitchell, Vice President, via Facebook or Instant Messenger) or e-mail us at treasurer@penicuikrugby.org if you have any questions or issues with this proposed change. We will also be posting notices around the club to ensure that everyone is made aware of this before it is implemented.

Additionally, as announced at the autumn budget 2025 the government will change duty on alcoholic products from the 1st February 2026 and this week we have received notice our suppliers are also increasing their prices from the 1st March.

Unfortunately we have made the decision to increase our prices by 10p from the 1st March, which will be our first increase in over 2 years.  However, our price prices are still some of the lowest in Penicuik.

Thanks to all our members who turned up to support the club on Thursday night for the opening M6N game between France & Ireland.

We hope the free bacon rolls went down well.

We open again from 12pm on Saturday where we will be screening live Italy v Scotland with Italian/Scottish themed food available.

England v Wales will follow at 4:40pm

Check our social media advert we’ve been running the past few weeks to advertise our M6N coverage.

A Massive Thank You to Our Hunters Section!

We just wanted to take a moment to shout out our incredible Hunters, parents, and volunteers who’ve been showing real initiative lately by running their own little fundraiser — completely off their own backs — to purchase new equipment and keep things buzzing.

It’s the kind of community spirit that makes this club what it is. Nobody’s asked to do anything, nobody’s pressured, it’s simply our members choosing to contribute, get involved, and have a bit of fun along the way.

And the best part?

Someone in the club is going to walk away £140 richer for supporting them.

The draw will be made this Saturday afternoon, so if you’ve grabbed a number, keep your eyes peeled.

We’re Proud of our Hunters and members who want to contribute, and equally proud the club is stable enough to plan for the future.  Both things can be true at the same time – like a prop who can also side step.

Proud of our Hunters. Proud of our club. Proud of our community.

MacWood Fuels Player Points

As the nights draw in and the temperature drops, Penicuik RFC’s attack has kept the scoreboard glowing all season long. Thanks to Macwood Fuels—suppliers of kiln dry logs, stave and kindling for your home fires—we’re proud to highlight the players who’ve lit up the pitch with their points-scoring power.

From scorching tries to cool-headed kicks, every score has added fuel to the fire of Penicuik pride. Just like Macwood’s logs, our players have kept the heat burning strong week after week.

So whether it’s warming your hearth at home or heating up the scoreboard at the weekend, remember:

Panthers Girls – Be Part of Something Brilliant

Edinburgh Rugby Evolution Series, Murrayfield

The Panthers Girls lit up Murrayfield last Saturday, taking an incredible 18 players to the Edinburgh Evolution Series — our biggest turnout yet. The energy, teamwork and confidence on display showed exactly why girls’ rugby at Penicuik is growing so fast.

U14s – Stepping Up, Standing Out

Our U14s came flying out the blocks, drawing 3–3 with a strong Montrose side before edging a thrilling 5–4 win over Falkirk. They followed it up with another tight contest against a combined East Lothian team, which the girls insist they won 4–3, and finished the day with another narrow victory over a Fife side.

What stood out wasn’t just the scores — it was the leadership. The girls organised themselves, communicated brilliantly and took responsibility on the pitch. They’re becoming confident, capable young athletes, and it’s amazing to watch.

U12s – Fast, Fearless and Full of Fire

Teaming up with Dalkeith and Lasswade, our U12s played some of their best rugby yet. They attacked with pace, defended with real bravery, and came away with three wins from three — even against some seriously big opposition. Their determination was outstanding.

U10s – Small but Mighty

Our youngest Panthers joined forces with Dalkeith and Lasswade and threw themselves into every moment. Both Zoes were superb, helping their team to a high‑scoring draw in their first match and pushing a strong Currie side all the way in the second. Brilliant effort from both.

Panther of the Week

A huge well done to Oliwia, whose physicality and commitment have been shining through in training and now in competition. A well‑deserved award and hopefully the first of many.

A Glimpse of the Future

After a quick turnaround (and some chips), the girls headed to the Edinburgh Rugby match — where they watched India and Zoe representing Penicuik on the Hive pitch. Moments like that show exactly what’s possible for any girl who joins our Panthers pathway.

🐆 Panthers Upcoming Opportunities

We’re delighted to share some fantastic events on the horizon for our Panthers!

15th March – Hosting Our Own Tournament. We’re proud to announce that the Panthers have been invited to host a tournament here at home. This is a brilliant opportunity to showcase our club, welcome visiting teams, and create a vibrant rugby atmosphere for players and families alike. To make this event a success, we’ll need the support of our community — so we’d love to see parents and volunteers get involved.

Both dates are ones to mark in your diaries. These occasions highlight the exciting pathway rugby offers young girls: competitive play, unforgettable experiences, and the chance to be part of something bigger.

Join the Panthers Girls – Ages 5 to 18

Whether your daughter is brand new to rugby or already loves sport, the Panthers offer:

  • A fun, friendly, confidence‑building environment

  • Teams for all ages and abilities

  • Fantastic coaching

  • New friends, new skills and unforgettable experiences

  • A pathway that can take them all the way to the Hive Stadium and beyond

Come give rugby a go — we’d love to welcome you.

At our youth sessions, we don’t just train — we build smart, confident young players who love the game.

Over the past few weeks, our players have been diving into fast‑paced, game-like challenges that sharpen passing, decision making, and teamwork. From exciting 3v2 and 2v1 attacking scenarios to structured warm‑up moves that boost timing, communication, and alignment, every session is designed to help players think quicker, support each other better, and play with real attacking flair.

Off the pitch, our squad is taking on a February Plank Challenge, building discipline, resilience, and a bit of healthy competition between players and coaches. And with our very own Six Nations Fantasy League, the chat is buzzing — who’s got the sharpest rugby brain, and who’s relying on pure luck?

This is rugby the way it should be:

Leith x Penicuik WXV Game Roundup🏉

The team faced a tough challenge on Sunday as they travelled to take on a strong Lenzie Women’s side.

From the opening whistle, Lenzie set a high tempo and capitalised on early opportunities, putting us under sustained pressure throughout the first half.

Despite the scoreboard, Leith showed real resilience and determination, continuing to compete hard in both attack and defence. The team’s efforts were rewarded with a well-worked try, highlighting moments of quality play and commitment even in difficult circumstances. Defensive efforts remained spirited, with players putting in big tackles and refusing to let heads drop as Lenzie maintained their intensity.

While the result was disappointing, the match provided valuable learning opportunities for our Leith x Penicuik side as we continue to develop and build cohesion. The focus now turns to training, recovery, and taking the positives forward as the squad looks ahead to the next fixture with renewed determination and team spirit.

Give the 1XV the Love They Deserve

Let’s pack the touchline, make some noise, and show this group just how much the club is behind them. Bring your voices, bring your colours, bring the love — because they’ve earned every bit of it.
