Welcome to the world, Rory!
👶💙 Huge congratulations to our 1XV stand-off Alan and his wife Emma on the arrival of baby Rory last week — and a big shoutout to Finn on his new role as proud big brother!
Just days after welcoming his newest teammate, Alan was back in action, creating and finishing a cracking interception try for the 1XV. Talk about dad strength! 💪🏉
Wishing the whole family plenty of love, sleep, and sidesteps in the weeks ahead.
Congratulations
💍🏡 Big congratulations to our main sponsor Ally McKenzie and his fiancée Lisa Moir on their recent engagement! From skips to kisses, Ally’s clearly mastered the art of commitment — and this time, it’s not just about waste management! ♻️❤️
The happy couple are currently building their forever home (no skips required for this one!) and have just welcomed a 4-month-old German puppy into the mix — talk about a full house of love, bricks, and barks 🐶🧱
We are currently running a sweep for when the big day arrives if we see Ally & Murray in suits, kilts or green overall’s up at the alter!
Wishing Ally and Lisa a lifetime of joy, laughter, and perfectly placed foundations. We’re thrilled to have you as part of the Penicuik RFC family — both on and off the pitch! 💙
Remembering Stuart Blaikie
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Stuart Blaikie — a long-standing and much-loved member of Penicuik RFC.
Many will remember Stuart not just for his years of involvement with the club, but for his familiar presence on Saturdays, walking the pitches with his beloved dogs Brook and Barclay, always ready with a story, a laugh, and a warm word. An outgoing character, Stuart had the rare gift of filling a room with humour and heart — his tales were legendary, his spirit unforgettable.
Stuart’s son Grahame proudly wore the Penicuik 1XV jersey and went on to represent Scotland at U18 level, a reflection of the sporting legacy Stuart helped nurture. Away from the touchline, Stuart was a key figure in the Mercat restaurants and entertained many with his weekly blog “All in the Life of Me, Budgie and Friends” — a window into his wit, warmth, and wonderful way with words.
Our thoughts are with his wife Anne, son Grahame, and all who knew and loved him.
Stuart’s presence will be deeply missed, but his stories and spirit will live on in the fabric of our club.

Hunters Fundraising
On behalf of the Hunters Mini Section I would like to say a massive thanks to the 30 kids and their parents & 2 grandparents 🙌🏻 who bravely ventured out into the Pentlands for our Sponsored Walk.
The kids were fantastic a disappeared off up the hills leaving us parents in close pursuit.
I’m very pleased to say that wasn’t the end of their enthusiasm the sponsorship ship money has rolled in since then and it seems the walking was the easy bit with many kids smashing the £100 mark in sponsorship and little Ben Lewis in P3 who walk the entire 7 mile route even managing to raise £250.
Ben and his Mum are off to the Edinburgh v Bennetton game as a thank you courtesy of Big Rob.
Our final total stands at £2742 which will be invested straight back into our minis to grow & promote our wee ones.
Thank you everyone!

🍍**Hawaiian Night Incoming**🍍
Blair and Craig are swinging into action with a night that’s more tropical than tasteful. Whether your shirt screams “beach vibes” or “lost property bin,” you’ll fit right in.
Expect pineapples, questionable fashion, and themed games that’ll have you wondering if Blair’s been sipping too many piña coladas or if Craig’s just naturally competitive in a grass skirt.
Come for the chaos, stay for the cocktails.
Tickets via club shop shortly

Club Point Scorers
After 5 weeks of rugby, U14 scrum half Logan McCreath continues to lead the way holding both top try scorer and top points scorer.
1xv captain Alan Haynes leaps to 3rd with 21 following his 14 pt haul against Forrester last weekend, pushing 2xv captain Ally McCormick who took a week out of action last weekend.
This season the club has scored 32 tries, 20 conversions and 4 penalties..still no drop goal scored by the club since before the 2016 season.
Also note, the senior side have used 53 different players across the 1xv & 2xv in the first 4 games

Hunters Weather the Storm with Sunshine and Gladiator Rugby
Storm Amy may have wreaked havoc (and no, not the Simon Cross’s dog kind) across the Edinburgh Leisure pitches, forcing our Hunters’ games to be cancelled — but that didn’t stop the fun.
With a quick pivot to Plan B, our players swapped muddy boots for backyard brilliance, enjoying a surprise burst of summer sunshine and a session packed with gladiator-style rugby games. From charging challenges to heroic dodges, the Hunters brought the energy, the laughs, and the team spirit in full force.
Storm Amy: 0
Penicuik Hunters: 10/10 for creativity, resilience, and fun.

🚗💨 Hunters Hit the Brakes for October Break!
With the October break rolling in, our Hunters are taking a pit stop — no rugby this Sunday or Wednesday as we recharge the batteries and check the tyres. But don’t worry, we’ll be back in gear on Sunday 19th with training that’s built for off-road toughness 💪
Big thanks to our sponsors Oval 4×4, specialists in Land Rover and Jaguar servicing — whether it’s a muddy pitch or a muddy driveway, they know how to keep things running smoothly. Just like our Hunters, they’re built for adventure and ready for anything!

Panthers Girls – Tournament Report
We made the trip through to Livingston today and made the most of the shelter and sunshine, enjoying surprisingly decent conditions for rugby. The tournament proved to be a steep learning curve for our girls, but one they’ll absolutely benefit from going forward.
U14s
First up, we faced a combined Peebles, Dalkeith, and Kelso side — our closest match of the day. The opposition were deserving winners, but our girls showed real grit throughout.
Next came a Lasswade, Boroughmuir, and Watsonians team, followed by tough fixtures against a strong Dunbar/Wandies side and an equally powerful Currie outfit. We found it challenging to match the experience and physicality of these teams, but there were bright moments in every game.
Highlights included some excellent individual carries from Elsa, India, Eva, and Grace, and some lovely evasive running from Molly and Leyla. Emma, Julia, and Anna worked tirelessly, linking play well at times. We looked our best when keeping the ball alive and shifting the point of attack.
We were a little hesitant in contact — carrying, rucking, and tackling — but that will come with more exposure and confidence. What stood out most was the heart and determination shown by every player. No doubt there’ll be a few sore bodies tomorrow! 🤕❤️
🌟 Panther of the Week: India Always looking to support and carry, with at least one try to show for her efforts. A brilliant shift! 🐆
A huge positive — our U14s had no need to merge with other teams thanks to strong numbers, even with a few players missing. That’s a fantastic sign of growth and commitment.
U12s
A special shoutout to Daisy, our sole U12 today. After just a week or so of training, she stepped into her first-ever tournament and absolutely smashed it! She mixed brilliantly with the other players and even bagged herself a try 🙌🙌🙌

💥 Panthers Girls Training Update 🐾
Last session for a few weeks and we packed quite a lot in. After a warmup we went straight into a touch game with a GIANT rugby ball. Think Geoff’s been feeding it his protein shakes and creatine. 🏉
We then went into a drill working on different ways to beat a defense. Footwork, fend, fight or kick. We followed that up with a drill working on protecting the ball or winning the space at ruck time. 💪
Finished with a scrag game taking these different elements into it.
Good session with lots of hard work and commitment. We had 14 girls I think with at least 3 of our regular missing!
💬 Thinking about giving rugby a go? Whether you’re brand new or just curious, now’s the perfect time to join the Panthers. We’re building a team full of spirit, strength, and smiles—and there’s always room for more!

🧼✨ Panthers on Pause for October Break!
With the October school break in full swing, we’re giving the boots a rinse and the bodies a rest — no training next week for our Panthers.
But don’t worry, we’ll be back sparkling and spotless with our NEW Monday training kicking off on 20th October, followed by our usual Wednesday session. Fresh week, fresh start, fresh kit (well… hopefully 😅).
Thanks to our sponsor Perfect Clean, we know a thing or two about coming back polished and ready to shine — whether it’s tackling grime or tackling defenders! 💪🐾

🏉💥 Midi Rugby in Full Swing!
This week our Midi section — made up of high school players from Penicuik and Beeslack — got stuck into a high-energy training session featuring ball skills, tackle bags, and some serious shield-smashing action 💪
Whether you’re a gym regular looking to put that power to good use, or just curious about trying something new, Midi rugby is open to all. No experience needed — just a willingness to learn, move, and be part of something bigger.
Team sports like rugby offer huge benefits for teenagers: ✅ Physical fitness and coordination ✅ Confidence and resilience ✅ Friendship and belonging ✅ A chance to challenge yourself in a supportive environment

Penicuik Women’s Round Up
This week marks a huge milestone for Penicuik Women’s Rugby! 💙❤️
We’ve officially launched our brand-new match strip — and it’s more than just a jersey. It’s a statement of intent. The new kit represents Penicuik’s commitment to investing in women’s rugby, building a clear pathway, and creating a strong future for girls and women in the sport.
And the excitement doesn’t stop there — we’ve also announced our first-ever match fixtures! This Sunday, we’ll be taking to the field as Penicuik Women’s Rugby for the very first time, away at Peffermill. Kick-off is at 12pm, and we’d love to see as many supporters as possible cheering us on from the sidelines. 💙❤️
It’s a proud moment that celebrates just how far we’ve come in such a short space of time. Here’s to new beginnings, bold strides, and the next chapter of women’s rugby in Penicuik. 💪💙❤️
