🏉 Live International Rugby – Next Weekend in the Clubhouse!

While the 1XV battle Haddington in the mud and drizzle, you can kick back in warmth and comfort with a full day of top-tier international rugby on the big screens.

🔥 3:10pm – England v Australia Start your afternoon with a clash of old rivals. No need for thermals — just grab a pint and settle in.

🍔 5:40pm – Scotland v USA Cheer on the home side while enjoying American-themed snacks from the kitchen. Burgers, wings, and maybe a cheeky hot dog — all available for purchase.

💥 8:10pm – Ireland v All Blacks (Chicago) Finish the night with a blockbuster. Expect drama, big hits, and last-minute heroics. This one’s worth staying for.

All matches live in the clubhouse. Great rugby, great food, and even better company.

See you there — thermals optional, enthusiasm mandatory

Club Lounge Usage

Massive thanks to Penicuik’s own Dick & Dom who successfully ran a Hawaiian themed evening last Saturday in their first outing as this seasons Social Team.

The clubhouse was filled with grass skirts, tropical trees, awful shirts and Pina Colada’s..

Congratulations to Greg Borthwick for winning the Limbo (if only he scrummaged that low) and to Sonia for best dressed.

A quick turnaround over night seen the Hawaiian beach transformed into a giant soft play on Sunday as the Hall family celebrated the 1st birthday of Louie

Host Your Next Event at the Clubhouse!

From birthdays and fundraisers to quiz nights and celebrations, our clubhouse has become a brilliant venue for all kinds of social events — and we love seeing it full of life off the pitch!

If you’re planning a function, why not make it a club affair? We’ve got the space, the atmosphere, and the community spirit to make it memorable.

Please note: Rugby remains our top priority. Match days will always take precedence when it comes to bookings — but we’ll do our best to accommodate your event around the fixture list.

To enquire or reserve a date, speak to a committee member or drop us a message. Let’s keep the clubhouse buzzing — on and off the field!

Remembering Stuart Blaikie

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Stuart Blaikie — a long-standing and much-loved member of Penicuik RFC.

Many will remember Stuart not just for his years of involvement with the club, but for his familiar presence on Saturdays, walking the pitches with his beloved dogs Brook and Barclay, always ready with a story, a laugh, and a warm word. An outgoing character, Stuart had the rare gift of filling a room with humour and heart — his tales were legendary, his spirit unforgettable.

Stuart’s son Grahame proudly wore the Penicuik 1XV jersey and went on to represent Scotland at U18 level, a reflection of the sporting legacy Stuart helped nurture. Away from the touchline, Stuart was a key figure in the Mercat restaurants and entertained many with his weekly blog “All in the Life of Me, Budgie and Friends” — a window into his wit, warmth, and wonderful way with words.

Our thoughts are with his wife Anne, son Grahame, and all who knew and loved him.

Stuart’s presence will be deeply missed, but his stories and spirit will live on in the fabric of our club.

Stuart’s funeral will be Wednesday 29th October 11am at Mortonhall, followed by the Craigiebield.  The family have requested not to wear black and instead wear clothing that reminds you of Stuart to connect with others.

Panthers Girls Rugby – Training Update

Monday: Skill School Launch 🚀

What a brilliant start to our first-ever Monday night Skill School! We had around 15 Panthers in attendance, joined by 7 players from the Women’s squad, making it a buzzing group of 22 on the pitch — amazing numbers for our debut session!

After a lively warm-up, we focused on spin passing off both hands, followed by a passing challenge that saw three of the girls gleefully dish out burpees to me and Geoff (we’re still recovering 😅).

Next up was kicking and grubber kicks, with another challenge that none of the girls quite nailed — so Geoff got his revenge with some cheeky piggybacks (or “kiddy backs” if you’re from Fife and fancy a laugh).

We wrapped up with a fun touch game, where two players from each team could stand offside to receive a kick or long pass — a great way to test vision, timing, and teamwork.

All in all, a fantastic first Monday session. We’re excited to keep building skills, confidence, and fun every week. If you’re a girl interested in rugby — now’s the perfect time to join!

Wednesday: Cold Hands, Hot Skills 🔥

Despite the chill in the air, our Panthers brought the heat to Wednesday night training. We kicked things off with a warm-up and a fast-paced game of touch rugby to get the blood flowing.

Then it was into rucking drills — clearing out defenders, getting back to feet, and securing the ball. The girls nailed it with great effort and technique.

Dave then led a series of 2v1 attacking drills:

  • Drawing defenders and making the pass

  • Bumping and offloading

  • Chip and chase over the top — with some brilliant execution!

We finished with a contact game, pulling together all the skills from the night. There were some cracking tackles and real team cohesion on display — a top session all round!
