🚨 New Signing Alert: Jack Rice Joins as Development Officer! 🚨

Penicuik Rugby Club is proud to announce Jack Rice as our new Development Officer — and we couldn’t be more excited to see him take the reins!

Jack’s rugby journey is pure Penicuik: from Minis to Youth, through every age grade, and all the way to lifting silverware with our Penicuik 7s winning side in 2022. He knows the club, the culture, and the community — and now he’s bringing that passion into local schools to help grow the game from the grassroots up.

This appointment is part of a wider initiative supported by Edinburgh Rugby, who are backing development officers across the region to strengthen rugby’s ties in the capital and beyond. You can read more about the programme here.

Jack will be out and about, inspiring the next generation of players with his energy, experience, and Penicuik pride. Whether it’s introducing rugby to first-timers or helping young talent find their stride, he’s ready to make a real impact.

Let’s give Jack a warm welcome — and keep an eye out for him in your school or on the touchline. The future of Penicuik rugby just got a serious boost!

Beanie Hats

New Penicuik RFC Beanie Hats – Built for the Cold, Styled for the Club! 🧢

Winter in Penicuik doesn’t mess about — and neither do we. That’s why we’re excited to launch our brand new Penicuik RFC beanie hats, designed to keep you warm, proud, and pitch-side ready through the frostiest months.

Whether you’re coaching in the sleet, cheering from the touchline, or just braving the Tesco car park in sideways rain, these beanies are your perfect companion. Soft, snug, and stitched with club spirit, they’re ideal for players, parents, and proud supporters alike.

🎯 Why you need one:

  • Keeps your head warm and your rugby heart visible

  • Stylish enough for school runs, muddy boots, and clubhouse banter

  • Great gift for teammates, coaches, or that one uncle who still claims he scored from halfway in ’94

Available now from the clubhouse or by messaging the club directly. Stocks are limited — and let’s be honest, so is Scottish sunshine.

Wrap up, show up, and represent Penicuik RFC in style. Because nothing says “rugby ready” like a beanie that’s seen a few scrums and survived a Hunters Festival.

Club Lounge Usage

It was a happy birthday surprise 21st party for Brodie Trotter on Friday evening.

The lounge looked in top form thanks to the decorating skills of the Trotter family!

On Saturday we hosted a sponsors lunch, on what was meant to be an afternoon celebrating rugby.  Unfortunately our opponents were unable to field a side for our sponsors to watch the 1xv in action but thankfully that didn’t hamper the occasion.

Thanks to all who attended : McKenzie Skip Hire, Perfect Clean, Oval 4×4, Rizzo, Montali & SGWCS.

Thanks to Bien Catering for the catering and to the sponsorship team for pulling the afternoon together.

New Signage and Wall Decor

The sponsors board in the entrance foyer has been updated for season 2025/26 featuring all this years sponsors.

Many of these are local small businesses so please support our own and support these businesses.

Thanks to Gillian A for hanging the poster and to specialized signs for production.

Big thanks to Pen-Y-Coe Press (Bridge Street) for printing up a series of wall art posters now on display.  Despite a last minute request they turned round the order in quick time and we recommend them for all your printing services – https://penicuikcdt.co.uk/index.php/pen-y-coe-press/

Hunters Shift Into Top Gear at Prestonpans

Last Sunday, our Hunters rolled into Prestonpans with engines purring and tyres pumped, ready to take on a well-drilled Preston Lodge Pirates mini section. And just like a finely serviced Land Rover from our brilliant sponsors at Oval 4×4, the squad ran smoothly, tackled tough terrain, and showed serious off-road resilience.

From P1s to P7s, the rugby on display was first class — full of grit, growth, and gear changes. Every player showed how far they’ve come thanks to the carefully mapped-out training routes laid down by our coaching pit crew. Whether it was rucking like a Range Rover or stepping like a Jaguar, the Hunters were firing on all cylinders.

🏆 Players of the Match (fully MOT’d and roadworthy):

  • P1/2 – Kyle Ewing

  • P3 – Louie Bagan

  • P4 – Zoey Laird

  • P5 – Hamish Anderson

  • P6 – Leo Stephen

  • P7 – Logan Forster

Each of these young players showed the kind of drive and determination that would make any engine roar — well done!

Why Youth Rugby Matters

Rugby isn’t just about tries and tackles — it’s about building confidence, teamwork, and resilience. It teaches kids how to handle bumps in the road, support their teammates, and push through the mud — on and off the pitch. Whether they’re shy or full throttle, every child finds their gear in rugby.

And with support from community champions like Oval 4×4, we’re helping the next generation of players stay on track, stay connected, and stay inspired.

🧼 Panthers Training Update – Sponsored by Perfect Clean 🧼

Because great rugby starts with a spotless attitude!

Monday: Scrubbing Up the Skills

The Panthers were back in action Monday night, and they came ready to clean up — literally and figuratively. After a warm-up of walking-to-jogging touch, the girls launched into a high-energy round of Mario Kart shield races, zooming around the track like pros (no banana skins in sight).

Then it was time to get serious with some 1v1 scrum engagement driving — think shoulder in, legs pumping, and engines revving. We followed that with rucking drills focused on hitting low, driving through, and winning the contest — all with the precision of a freshly polished floor.

Wednesday: Last Outdoor Session Before the Big Freeze

With the chill creeping in, Wednesday marked our final outdoor session for a while — and the timing couldn’t have been better. A few frosty moans were quickly warmed up with walking touch and mobility drills, and with 14 girls turning out, the energy was brilliant.

We split into two groups: one tackled attacking drills with sharp lines and clean passes, while the other focused on rucking drills with Geoff, working on technique and timing. The groups swapped halfway through to keep things fresh and sparkling.

We wrapped up with a touch game that zoomed in on ruck speed and ball protection — and yes, a few old habits tried to sneak back in (one-handed carries, static running, ball-watching). But after a bit of coach-powered scrubbing, those habits were rinsed out and replaced with sharper play.

Thinking of joining the Panthers?

Whether you’re U14 or U16, experienced or brand new, there’s a place for you in our squad. With support from Perfect Clean, we’re building a team that’s strong, supportive, and seriously fun. Come along, give it a try — and let’s clean up the competition together!

Panthers to Host Girls Rugby Evolution Series – Sunday 9th November!

Proudly backed by our spotless sponsors, Perfect Clean

We’re thrilled to announce that Penicuik RFC will be hosting our very own leg of the Girls Rugby Evolution Series on Sunday 9th November — and it’s set to be a brilliant showcase of skill, spirit, and the unstoppable rise of girls’ rugby in our community
