Presidents words
Gav McQuillan
Firstly a massive thank you to all our sponsors who backed us last season.
Our main club sponsor McKenzie Skip Hire and our principal sponsors Allan Hay Roofing, Shand & Burns Financial and Uniq marketing have been fantastic with us and we wouldn’t have been able to progress last season without their valued support.
Thank you to everyone who stepped up and sponsored a player for season 2022/23, we hope you found value with the advertisement and also made use of the various hospitality events laid on.
Due to the success the sponsorship team are looking to repeat this for season 2023/24, please contact Gav Holmes at sponsorship@penicuikrugby.org for more details. We are launching our new sponsorship brochure early next week, so please keep an eye out.
If you are in need of any services, please reach out to one of our sponsors in the first instance before looking elsewhere
Please see the notice further below about this years AGM, we are looking for fresh faces and fresh idea’s to help drive the club forward into our centenary year of 2024. If you have skills you feel could be useful please speak up, please don’t worry if you feel you haven’t the time to commit to a committee position as we also need volunteers to help alongside our committee members.
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with season 2022/23, all your assistance was very much appreciated.
As a club, we are massively excited for the season ahead, we welcome firstly the 2023 Rugby World Cup which kicks off on Friday 8th of September with France facing the All Blacks. The game will be screen live in the clubhouse.
Our 2xv make the step up to East Region Reserve League 1, where they will challenge the likes of Boroughmuir, Currie, Watsonians, Stewart Melville, Edin Accies and Lasswade. We are looking forward to hosting these sides here in Montgomery Park.
We are hoping some fresh faces will provide the injection required to our 1xv following the disappointing end to last season, the boys are working hard during the 1st week of pre-season
We have brought some fresh faces into the senior coaching set up and will be announcing these shortly after the AGM, but we are excited for the season ahead with the prep being put in now.
Then in 2024 we start our Centenary festivities. Some behind the scenes action has started already towards this and we will keep everyone updated with our plans shortly.
We have finalised our fixture list for our mini’s and midi sides, and these will be published later next week, along with the senior fixtures which will also be getting updated.
Enjoy your summer holidays when they come
Thanks Gav
In and around the clubhouse
Pre-season started last Tuesday and it was great to welcome new and old faces. We continue every Tuesday & Thursday 7pm

These sessions are open to all age, ability and fitness. If you have recently moved into Penicuik, played elsewhere, and looking for somewhere local to run about please give us a shout. Our existing rugby family are very welcoming and will take care of your better halves when you’re playing on Saturdays. The clubhouse is typically full of partners and children during and after game times.
We have a number of pre-season games lined up, the first league game is away to Duns 3pm 2nd Sept. For full fixtures check out the SRU website herehttps://fixtures.scottishrugby.org/club-rugby
We wish our very fond farewells to 1xv players Kaihe Kaharau and Connor Clarke who are moving on.
Kaihe is ending his Scotland adventure and returning to his native New Zealand with his family. The players recently enjoyed a final night out in the club with Kaihe and spoiled him with shots for every try he scored for the 1xv.
Connor has secured a pro contract with USRC Tigers over in Hong Kong.
Good luck to both players and we wish you both the very best for the future
Congratulations to former 1xv front row player Matias Garcia who recently celebrated his marriage to Anne Scarr. Matias has married into Penicuik Rugby royalty with new Father in Law PRFC legend Donald Scarr.
From all the club we wish you both all the happiness for the future, and if your back visiting family, we always could do with a front row player on game days!
Congratulations to former Penicuik Head Coach Simon Cross who was today named as the new Head Coach of USMLR team Old Glory DC https://oldglorydc.com/simon-cross-named-head-coach-of-old-glory-dc/
Crossy started his coaching journey here at Penicuik in the mid-noughties, and enjoyed several years coaching the side before moving upwards. He is remembered fondly by our “now retired” players, especially for the antics in a cow field in Yarm during a squad camping trip.
We are now looking for someone to start up and run the Official Old Glory DC Penicuik Supporters Club….( I feel a tour coming on)
