Josh ‘in’ around

Our club development officer Josh is in and around our local schools.  Here’s what he’s been up to :-

This week marks the end of our rotations at Beeslack until after the Christmas holiday, and we’ve got some exciting plans lined up!

I’m thrilled to continue our sessions at multiple schools, including the primary schools Mauricewood and Roslin. We’ve been having a blast developing basic rugby skills through a variety of fun games and drills.

I’ve also had the pleasure of working with the students at Cuiken and Strathesk. Together, we’ve been honing our skills in moving the ball into space effectively and efficiently. It’s been amazing to see the enthusiasm and progress of all the young players. Rugby is not only a fantastic way to stay active, but it also teaches teamwork, strategy, and resilience.

Join us and experience the thrill of rugby—where every game is an adventure and every player is a part of our rugby family!

If you’d like your child to try rugby in Penicuik’s primary schools please message Josh at do@penicuikrugby.org

ARNOLD CLARK EAST REGION RESERVE LEAGUE DIVISION 2 (MEN’S)

CORSTORPHINE 2ND XV v PENICUIK 2ND XV (Union Park, Edinburgh)

At the time of going to press the 2xv are traveling to Union Park to face Corstorphine.  The side are looking to build on the last outing against Dalkeith (more to come about that game later).

Head Coach Rich Mann has been able to select a stable side with only a couple of changes.  Corstorphine will be looking for a home win to claw the gap on the Penicuik side sitting top of the league

*** With the weather very uncertain this weekend, please keep checking back for match updates before making any travel arrangements***

ARNOLD CLARK EAST REGION LEAGUE DIVISION 2 (MEN’S)

CORSTORPHINE RFC v LEITH RUGBY CLUB

DUNBAR RFC v TRINITY ACADEMICALS RFC

PENICUIK RFC v LIVINGSTON RFC

ROYAL HIGH RFC v HAWICK HARLEQUINS RFC

Dunbar will be looking to do Penicuik a favour by continuing their seasons form and deny Trinity Accies any form of losing bonus points.

Corstorphine, Quins and RHC are all battling out for 3rd place, although a Penicuik and RHC win would see the Barnton side the opportunity to take 2nd in the league.

Penicuik will be looking to take anything from the Livingston game to try and build a gap over Trinity at the bottom of the league.

Penicuik Charity Christmas Lights Parade

This Saturday our very own past president Alex Pettie and main club sponsor Murray McKenzie will be braving the December cold weather and will be on show at the Penicuik Christmas Market to raise awareness for their Charity Tractor Parade in aid of the British Heart Foundation and Cash for Kids with an epic trip in very exposed classic tractors!

Please come down to the precinct this Saturday 2:30-5:30 with the Christmas light switch on at 6pm

Please support them by cheering them on as they pass and by donating here – https://gofund.me/2dae4db3

Youth Rugby

Our new combined Lasswade/Penicuik U16 side last Saturday played Leith Academy in a sunny, but bitterly cold morning.

After kicking of in Montgomery park, Leith were quick to score after a few missed tackles, which they manage to convert (0-7).  Following a few phases Andrew Hope (10) broke the line and swiftly scored in the corner (5-7).  After good defensive play from Penicuik, they manage to win the ball and Blair Toulouse (12) runs in his first try of the game (10-7). Soon after Leith respond with a drive towards the line and successfully score (10-14).   Having worked on line outs recently, Penicuik win their own ball, link with their backs and Blair Toulouse runs in his 2nd try, making it look effortless.  Try is converted by Andrew Hope

(17-14).  With Penicuik leading, the pressure was on in the final 20 minutes of the game.  Leith score again, but fail to convert making the score 17-19.  Penicuik forwards win their own scrum and a quick ball is fed to Ethan Brown(16), weaving his way through the defence to score in the right corner (revealing a bit too much) (22-19).  Leith respond again and score, taking the lead 22-24.  In the dying minutes of the game Penicuik’s Arran Jennings-Young (3) went over the line to score a very well executed try.  With a successful conversion by Cal Paterson (15), the game finishes 29-24, victory to Penicuik.

It was great seeing a Penicuik u16 playing for the first in around 2 years.  The boys would like to thank the supporters that came along, the referee Les Whatford, all the coaches and the mum’s/helpers that made the pies and sausage rolls.
