Welcome to Penicuik Rugby
This Saturday, we gather for a momentous occasion, our final home league game of the 2024-2025 season against Edinburgh neighbours Corstorphine.
As captain Alan Haynes follows our very first captain A.C Quinn in leading the team onto the field at Penicuik Rugby Club, we not only mark the end of a season filled with determination, triumphs, and camaraderie but also celebrate a milestone that resonates with pride and history—our 100th year of rugby in Penicuik.
Over the past century, our club has flourished, becoming a cornerstone of our community and a symbol of sporting excellence. This season, our 1XV has demonstrated remarkable resilience and unwavering spirit, navigating the challenges of fierce competitors and unpredictable weather with true dedication.
From the exhilarating victories against Hawick Harlequins RFC (51-33) and Royal High RFC (32-7) to the hard-fought battles with formidable teams like Dunbar RFC and Livingston RFC plus nail biting losses to Leith (17-18), our players have shown immense passion and commitment. Despite weather disruptions leading to rescheduled matches, their focus has remained steadfast, embodying the very essence of rugby.
Today, as we face our final home league game, we invite you to join us in commemorating our rich heritage and celebrating the incredible achievements of our team.
We welcome several of our very generous sponsors to the clubhouse before the match, we are very thankful for their support of the rugby club and hope you enjoy the hospitality.
Let us cheer with pride, honor our past, and look forward to a future filled with promise and potential. Together, we stand united in our love for the game and our unwavering support for Penicuik Rugby Club.

Last Saturday our U13 side faced a tough game against an experienced Dunbar side. Read all about how they got on…
On a bright and sunny day at Montgomery Park, our Penicuik U13s took to the field with enthusiasm and determination, ready to face a formidable Dunbar side. Despite the challenging opposition, our young players displayed incredible spirit and teamwork throughout the match.
**First Phase**:
Penicuik opened the game with a strong start, showcasing their skills and resilience. Although Dunbar’s physicality posed a significant challenge, our players never backed down and gave their all on the field.
**Second and Third Phases**:
The match continued with Dunbar pressing forward, but our Penicuik team stood tall, tackling bravely and defending with heart. Their unwavering effort and dedication were evident, even as Dunbar’s experience showed through.
**Shining Moment**:
In the third phase, Penicuik had a moment of brilliance! The backs combined beautifully to gain possession, drive forward, and orchestrate a fantastic play that saw Leon surge through to score a well-deserved try. This moment highlighted the potential and talent within our team.
**Final Score**: Penicuik 7 – 65 Dunbar
While the final score may not have been in our favor, the match was a testament to the determination, skill, and sportsmanship of our young players. Each game is an opportunity to learn and grow, and this experience will undoubtedly make our team stronger.
Rugby is all about resilience, teamwork, and passion. We encourage more young players to join our ranks and experience the joy and camaraderie of this wonderful sport. Together, we can achieve great things on and off the field

1xv
This Saturday our 1xv take to Montgomery Park time for the final time in season 2024/25 looking for 5 points to move mid-table in Arnold Clark East Region 2.
Todays opponents easily won the first encounter at Union Park 38-13 back in October with Penicuik missing key players. The forecasted heavy pitch will favour the larger Corstorphine pack and Penicuik will look to move the ball away from close encounters.
Penicuik go into the game on the back of a good home win against Livingston, where the squad dug deep and fronted up. Despite losing stand off and captain Haynes to injury in the 2nd half the team continued to work the ball in good positions and will be looking to play the same way today.
Corstorphine make 5 changes to the side that won in the Union Park fixture last time out and make 5 changes to the side in their last outing in the Cup away to East Kilbride where they narrowly lost 34-17 despite man of match performances from centre David Hislop and consecutive man of the match performances from second row Sam Wynn.
Eoin Kelly returns to Hooker after starting from the bench, Callum Paterson starts at 6 with Lusty dropping out the squad. Scrum half Grierson replaces Wright who moves back to full back and Pilkingon returns at stand off after starting 13 against East Kilbride.
1 K.West 2 E.Kelly 3 K.Goulden 4 S.Wynn 5 S.Robertson 6 L.Boy 7 C.Paterson 8 D.Leach 9 H.Grierson 10 A.Pilkingon 11 G.O’Mara 12 D.Heslop 13 M.Black 14 K.Davidson 15 F.Wright 16 R.Green 17 R.Lanni 18 M.Maiden
At the time of going to press no 1xv team has yet been made available
Both teams have had wins in this fixture over the years here at Montgomery Park 40-25 (23/24), 17-45 (22/23), 31-17 (21/22), 19-34 (19/20) & 30-18 (18/19).
22nd March v Hawick Quinns (Away) 3pm
29th March v Dunbar (Away) 3pm
Elsewhere in the league
League leaders Dunbar make the trip to Quins who have 3 games in hand on the East Lothian side. With 15 points on offer to the Hawick side they would have been in the hunt for top spot were it not for a 3pt deduction back in December against Leith.
However, it is still possible for Quins to be crowned champions with 25 points available if they make use of bonus points in their remaining games (including our visit later in March). Dunbar need only 2pts to secure the league championship and this will be an exciting game to watch for the neutral at Wilton Lodge Park.
Livingston will be looking for an away win at Royal High to move into 3rd place, whilst its an Edinburgh derby with Trinity hosting neighbours Leith.
2xv
This Saturday our 2xv make the trip to East Lothian and Neilson Park Haddington. The side go into this game after a convincing 40-0 victory of Midlothian neighbours Dalkeith.
Haddington last played on the 18th January, losing at home to Corstorphine 12-26
With 2 rounds left to go, anyone of 3 sides can take top spot. Caledonian Thebans lead the way with a 8-4 form and sitting on 47 points. Thebans travel to Kings Park Dalkeith this Saturday with their final game on the 5th April at home to Edinburgh Northern. Northern also can take the title as although sitting 3rd on 41pts have 2 games in hand on Thebans and our own 2xv.
The Bunker men face Leith on Saturday then travel away to Dalkeith and Watsonians before the clash at Inverleith park on the 5th April.
Our own 2xv have to focus on winning their next 2 games, then will have to watch the league unfold in the weeks after
Rich and James had a full squad available for selection with a number of disappointed players not making the squad. A great turn out at training this week meant everyone was put through their paces, with the scrummaging machine also rolled out.
