Presidents Welcome
The welcome return of Friday evening rugby as we welcome Livingston to Montgomery Park for our last home First XV game pf the season.
If we are being honest it’s been a disappointing end to out league campaign as momentum seems to have been lost since December. However with at least 3rd place secured which shows progress from last season the squad has a great opportunity to put on a performance this weekend. The last game was an entertaining affair with Livingston dominating the first half which spurred our players on to much improved 2nd half display which secured the win – I’m sure revenge will be on Livys mind which should make for an interesting game.
As ever a vocal home support will be helpful so o would hope we get a big turnout this Friday to get your last first team fix until next season.
A full six nations to then enjoy including the visit of England to Murrayfield so no matter what your rugby weekend looks like I hope it a good one.

Friday night is under the lights with a home game to Livingston. The game was originally scheduled for the 30th March, however it suited both teams to pull this forward. The remaining fixture is scheduled away to Hawick Linden Friday 15th March down at volunteer park.
With Livingston not being able to catch Penicuik into 3rd place, this is an ideal time to throw the ball around with no pressures of winning. If you want to watch a nail biting winner takes all rugby game then get down to Kings Park Dalkeith on Saturday morning for a 12pm ko where Dalkeith host Dunbar.
A Dalkeith win will push the title to the final week (13th April), a Dunbar win go a massive way to winning East Region League Division 2.
Livingston go into Fridays game on a massive high, having put away Corstorphine in last Saturdays double header 36-15 (Corstorphine having beaten Penicuik in the Nation shield on the 27th Jan 23-13).
Penicuik, earlier in the season, won away at Livingston 40-24. Penicuik were 21-7 down at half time, however rallied back to secure the bonus point win with tries from Ketchen, Randall, Holgate, Cartwright and a penalty try.
Michael Holgate has now moved through to Glasgow for work following his studies and we wish Michael well, and massive thanks for his dedication this season, and hopefully he may return to a Penicuik strip in the future.
A host of unavailabilities has seen a number of 2xv call ups. Due to make their 1xv debut from the bench will be Matty Robertson and Esala Falemaka. Its great to see Darren Pearson pull on the #3 strip again and is joined at prop by Paddy O’Sullivan.
Captain Oscar Malone moves from full back to outside centre and partners Nic Adler, with a back 3 of Sprott, Randall and Doyle. Long term injuries to Reid and Ketchen ruling them out this weekend and Dean…. oh who knows.. ski-ing?? marathon running??

It’s great to see former faces, and can report at least 1 person in the team photo’s has managed to pull on his boots for an appearance in season 2023/24…. Can you guess who??
