First XV

The 1xv were given the week off last weekend.

This Saturday the team travel out to Union Park, Edinburgh to face Corstorphine who currently occupy 5th in the league.  Corstorphine recorded a 34-14 away win last outing down at Duns and will be looking to amend the 40-25 scoreline in the first meeting between the 2 at Montgomery Park earlier in the season.

Despite having a mixed bag of results, Corstorphine have been strong at home pushing Dalkeith close 19-20 and Dunbar 20-29.  Penicuik need to be on top of their game and take their try scoring opportunities to come away with points this Saturday.

Penicuik have to go back to December 2018 to the last time they recorded a victory at Union Park with a 38-14 win, 7 of that team feature in Saturdays squad.  Team that day : Holmes, Di Rollo, Kitching, R.Mitchell, Poole, Winnington, McCulloch, Tait, Shillinglaw, Thomson, Horrell, McCaig, Ketchen, McCormick, Mackintosh. Subs Beveridge, Garcia-Polak, F.Mitchell, Brook

Boroughmuir 2A – 97

Saturday past brought Boroughmuir 2A, a side having only suffered 2 losses this season to Montgomery Park. Suffering a heavy defeat to the men from the city centre already this season, our 2nd XV knew the challenge that lay ahead.

A score line of 97-7 would flatter any team on the winning side however, despite the barrage of scores from the away side the 2nd XV would keep their heads held high and show the resilience within themselves, which is far from an easy thing to do under the circumstances.

Despite a bombardment of tries from a well drilled Boroughmuir side, the 2nds managed to keep their heads in the game and play some entertaining rugby for all, with flyhalf wannabe Liam Boal using his ex-football skills in putting boot to ball to consistently exploiting space in the back field, pinning the opposition back on numerous occasions. Winger Junior Vudi would get on the end of what was a spectacular try.

Disappointingly however, those would be the only points the home side would see for the remainder of the game in which they deserved so much more from with the Boroughmuir defence well drilled and on top controlling the game well.

The 2s now play at home this weekend against Currie 2nd XV as the result of a venue rearrangement. A match setting itself up to be a perfect chance to bite back and show what this Penicuik side are made of when coming up against a Currie side playing some really good rugby however, also suffering defeat in their last outing.
