Presidents Words
October already and I believe we can look back on a positive and productive September.
Off the pitch the club has been busy with a great mix of functions and parties along with good support for the Scotland World Cup matches.
Thanks to all our volunteers who have helped behind the bar to keep things running.
Yet again our player sponsorship has proved popular along with the great news that we welcome Greenstone Energy Solutions and Firefinch as partners. There are still a number of players available to sponsor so please speak to Gavin Holmes if you would like to get involved.
On the pitch another successful mini tournament shows the continued progress of the youth section and on the senior side the second XV, while finding the step up in league a new challenge are approaching this with huge positive energy creating new friends along the way.
The First XV have had the perfect start to the season sitting at the top on East 2 unbeaten and with 5 bonus points. This has been a huge senior squad effort with a number of players stepping up this year from the seconds given a petty big list of injuries. Lots to build on with a couple of big games later in the month.
You don’t get much bigger for us than a Midlothian derby and the 2s make the short trip this weekend to take on lasswade. This promises to be a great game against our old rivals and shows the progress we are making that this is back as a league fixture.I know the players take a lot from a big crowd and would appreciate your support on Saturday.
Fingers crossed for a Penicuik/Scotland double.
Enjoy your weekend.

First XV
Penicuik 28 – 24 Hawick Linden
Tries : Mitchell, Ketchen, Isikeli, Haynes
Cons : Haynes (4)
A 5th bonus point win was a good result for the 1xv last Satuday. Its always a pleasure to welcome John Tait and the Linden boys to Montgomery Park, and they arrived looking to make a good game of this fixture.
This was a tough game, Penicuik being forced in mistakes through Linden pressure. Fraser Mitchell open his scoring account for the season half way through the 1st half with a forward maul over the try line. It wasn’t until the 2nd half did Penicuik record another score, Ketchen creating a break in his own half and cutting against defenders to touch down between the posts.
From a period of driving for the line Isikeli found himself at the breakdown to pick and dive over the line. Alan Haynes was next up with an interception for an opportunist try. Penicuik had a few more chances to score, however mistakes and a great Linden defence limited the score to 28. Linden got the final score just before full time to head home with 2 bonus points, and we look forward to a return trip on the 2nd December with the intention of joining Linden in some fun in the clubhouse afterwards.

No game this weekend for the 1xv, next outing is away to Dalkeith 14th October 3pm
Two xv
This Saturday the 2xv make the short trip to Bonnyrigg to face Lasswade. This will only be the 2nd time the clubs have met since Lasswade moved up the leagues many years ago.
The squad is still suffering from injuries, with 2xv captain Ally McCormick now likely to miss the remainder of the season. However Rich Mann has still been able to call upon a full squad.
The team line up is below. Please note Ross Liddle has now withdrawn from the side, which we are delighted with as he is getting married next Saturday (yes.. on a league game Saturday..and against Dalkeith!) and shouldn’t be anywhere near a pitch this weekend!
Rugby World Cup 2023
Its all or nothing for Scotland this Saturday, a sizable win and they could making the quarter finals next weekend, anything else and its back to club duty for the players.
Join us in the clubhouse Friday or Saturday to watch the games. Food will be provided at half time at the Scotland game.
Of course, we all can’t be fortunate to be at the State de France this Saturday, but thankfully the club is represented by 1xv captain and vice captain Oscar & Max Malone, along with Fraser and Ross Mitchell. Thanks to one of their party who shared this photo of them all kilted up in the Paris fan village earlier today
