Scotland take on Romania in game 3 of their World Cup journey and our 1xv are looking to keep going their start to the season at home to Hawick Linden

For all the Penicuik Rugby this weekend, details of tickets for 2024 Six Nations tickets and 1xv & 2xv team details keep reading below.

Presidents notes

A slightly quieter weekend for the club after the excitement of last weeks Greenstone Energy Solutions mini festival last Sunday. Thanks again to everyone who helped make it a huge success and it was great to see the club so busy.

We have continued to make great progress in attracting new sponsors and partners to the club and it’s great to welcome FireFinch Software as the latest addition. Than you to Matt and the team for the support and great to have you on board.  For full details click here – https://penicuikrugby.org/sponsor-announcement/

Both our senior teams are in action this weekend with the First XV at home welcoming Simon and his Hawick Linden side.  The seconds making the the short trip to Watsonians. With a long injury list to contend with Mark and Manny have done a great job to still pull together two competitive squads both of which will appreciate a little bit extra support this Saturday.

Have a great weekend

Cheers Gav

This is to cover the busy spells, no opening/closing is required, and free drinks are available throughout the period.

If you have a few hrs to spend, enjoy the match day atmosphere and want to help your local rugby club, drop an email to info@penicuikrugby.org or speak to Robbie.

ps…. if you have a dependant whose 18+ and looking for bar experience for further work, this an ideal position as we will also provide references

1xv

Penicuik 40 – 25 Livingston

Tries : Ketchen (2), Randall, Holgate, Cartwright, penalty try

Con : Haynes (4),

Pens :

Livingston started the stronger team and were leading 22-7 at half time.

Their heavier pack doing the damage in the early stages, with a Ketchen try bringing Penicuik on the scoreboard.

Livingston began to tire, 2 quick tries from Luke Randall and Michael Holgate closed the gap to 25-19 before a penalty try with 5 to go seen Penicuik go 26-25 ahead.

In the final minutes another quick double from Cartwright and Ketchen extended the score line, however Penicuik were very lucky to come away with a win and bonus points.

This weekend we welcome Hawick Linden who lost out 33-12 away to Corstorphine last week out and will be looking to make amendments.

kick off is 3pm.

Todays mascot is P4 speedster Dan Clark

2xv

Penicuik 12 – 42 Currie 3’s

Tries : Harris, Pritchard

Con : Findlay

Pens :

The 2xv welcomed Currie 3’s last Saturday.  The scoreline doesn’t reflect how hard the 2’s pushed Currie.  Penicuik put in a good shift and finished the game the stronger, despite being down to 14 for a period in the 2nd half.

Despite a number of injuries from the previous week, the 2’s were able to field a good 22 with a couple of debuts.

This week the 2xv are away to Myreside to face Watsonians in a 3pm ko.

Teams are (correct at time of going to press)

Youth Rugby

This Saturday both U14′ & U16’s make the trip to Inch Park, Gilmerton to play Edinburgh Harlequins.  Kick off is 10:30am

Mini’s and micro’s train as normal 11am

In and around the clubhouse

We were saddened to hear about the passing of Jean Bain a few weeks ago.  Mother to former 1xv captain Billy Bain, Jean spent over 30yrs ensuring the clubhouse was kept sparkling.  In 1989 she was honored to present the sevens trophy to the winning Penicuik side.

On Wednesday we welcomed her family to the clubhouse after the funeral to remember Jean, and it was great to see members and former players in attendance.

Now their playing days are well behind them, Dougie Goodall and Pete Rennie were spotted out in Nice, rumours they brought their boots incase of a front row call up by Gregor Townsend are wide of the mark.

If you are over in France, DM us your photos and we’ll post the best, just like these 2 wally’s
