Touch Rugby Tournament Grand Final Day 21st June 2025
The S3-S4 team that was made up of players from both Beeslack High and Penicuik High, went head-to-head with a team of coaches and parents that called themselves the “Coaches Select”
The scores remained neck and neck for most of the game until midway through the second half, when the coaches started to edge ahead by three points.
A try by the youth team brought it to within 2 points with only a couple of mins left of the game. With seconds to play the youth team managed to score another well deserved try.
Had there been a few more minutes to spare, it’s likely the Youth team would’ve equalised and taken the game into a golden point decider.
A fantastic effort from both sides, full of class and sportsmanship, showing just how much the Penicuik youth have learned from their mentors over the years.
The trophy, aptly named “Old Boots vs Fresh Knees”, went to the Old Boots this year — but we suspect the youth team will take that 1-point loss and use it as fuel for next year’s tournament. Expect a comeback!
Well done to both teams for your hard work throughout the year and the tournament, and for delivering such a brilliant and entertaining spectacle!
Final Score Youth Team (8 Vs 9) Coaches Select
The 2025 Penicuik Rugby Club – TRT Grand Final saw the Penicuik Panthers (the club’s very own girls’ team) take on The Peni Boys.
Both teams spent the 24 hours prior getting hyped for the big showdown after realising they’d be battling for the huge trophy — and the honour of being crowned 2025 TRT Champions.
Penicuik was treated to a summer rainstorm that could only be described as bouncin!, and it barely let up during the entire game. But it didn’t dampen the players’ spirits. As soon as the whistle blew, both teams went full throttle.
In the first half, the Peni Boys took an early lead, making full use of the space. The Panthers fought back with a try to stay within reach.
Halftime brought some strategic regrouping — the Peni Boys were focused on holding their lead, while the Panthers planned how to exploit any cracks in the opposition’s defence.
With the score at 7–2 to the Peni Boys, it looked like a mountain to climb for the Panthers. But they had determination on their side.
The second half kicked off with both teams showing absolute grit, playing through the rain with passion and focus.
A stunning try from the Panthers brought the score to 7–3, followed swiftly by another to make it 7–4. Suddenly, the Peni Boys started to look nervous.
Despite being down by three, the Panthers didn’t give up. Another brilliant try made it 7–5 with under a minute to play — the tension was sky-high.
But with just seconds left, a final try by the Peni Boys sealed the game, crowning them the 2025 TRT Champions.
A game both teams will surely never forget!
After the final whistle, everyone gathered in the clubhouse to get out of the rain and enjoy the awards ceremony. Players, coaches, and volunteers were all recognised for their efforts during the tournament.
This years Player of the Match went to “The Peni Boys” Captain Blake and the Player of the Series went to the Panthers Player Eva for both of their outstanding efforts during the tournament.
Now in our second year, we hope to build on this success — bringing even more young people into rugby, whether they’re here for fun, fitness, friendships, or with dreams of becoming the next Finn Russell or Sarah Law.
If you or someone you know is interested, don’t hesitate — get in touch and become a member today. The club has so much to offer for you, your family, and our wider community.
Congratulations to all our winners today — and to every player who showed up, gave it their all, and helped make something special.
And to our volunteers: THANK YOU! Week after week, you show up and give your best to support the next generation — and to show them what it means to be part of this great club.
Here’s to 2026 – we’re already looking forward to it!
