The Penicuik Rugby Wrap of 2024

January

The 1XV opened the season with a disappointing loss away to Dunbar, whilst the 2xv lost a Midlothian Derby 32-7 at home to Lasswade

We launched the PRFC myname’5 Doddie league (click here for the 2025 – https://penicuikrugby.org/doddie-aid-2025/) and our S1/S2 played in the shadows of Murrayfield

And the club held its annual Burns supper (apologies we have no footage as non were shared/provided)

February

We kicked off a full clubhouse for the Six nations, crashed out the Scottish cup away to Corstorphine and found a  Reminiscences of a Non-Playing Member from the 1979 season

Former 1XV captain Alun Semple donated a fantastic midi photos from the 90’s showing our classic “candy strip” (pic below)

March

We issued an SOS for all Penicuik rugby archive stuff, our 1XV had their final home game of the season, our minis started their Gladiator training (video below)

Our midi’s (in a joint Edinburgh side) were edged out in East Shield Final despite a draw away to Kelso

Our School of Rughy association with Beeslack High School had a great day at Murrayfield  for the East Emerging schools championship (pic below)

April

We kicked off April with inviting all our former office bearers down for  hospitality before the official centenary game again Lismore (click video for recap)

And Launched a special Centenary Match Day Programme

Our midi section introduced a fantastic summer touch rugby tournament.

In our 57th annual seven as side tournament, our home team narrowly lost out to Murrayfield Wanderers came from behind to win (video below)

August

August was a busy month.  We announced our renewal sponsorship with the fantastic McKenzie Family and cheekily ripped off the Arnold Clark-SRU sponsorship video as our launch vehicle.

Our Micros and Mini’s restarted for Centenary season 2024/25

September

We welcomed over 500 mini rugby players for the 2024 Greenstone Energy Hunters Mini Rugby Festival

Callum and the team at CMG Residential kitted out all our players with new water bottles (click photo for review)

Whilst the 1xv managed 1 win in 4 games throughout September, the only highlight being a 51-33 win over Hawick Harlequins.

On better news, we were delighted with the news Sarah Law made her Barbarians Debut against South Africa.  We can now proudly boast the Penicuik red socks have now represented the legendary Barbarians (Click link for video)

October

Our new U13 side got their first competitive outing (and continue to go from strength to strength)

We held the first sponsors day of the season (click for review)

And thanks to the generosity of local Company Better Physiotherapy, who kitted all the coaching side out in new Beanie Hats in time for Winter

Oh… and our new storage container encountered off-loading difficulties

November

November started with the annual Mini’s Halloween party, pictured are our P5 side infront of our new Foyer Display of the original and first ever Penicuik 1xv from 1924.

P6 player Leyla represented the club as Mascot for Scotland, in their match against South Africa

And we welcomed Edinburgh players Charlie Shiel and Rob Carmichael to Wednesday night Hunter’s Training.

Whilst out new combined Penicuik/Lasswade U16 side got some great game time.

December

We welcomed December with our former president Alex Pettie leading out Penicuik’s first Santa Tractor Dash to raise money for Charity.

Our new 2024/25 Centenary strips finally got their first action of the season.

We Took a coach load of our Mini’s to watch Edinburgh defeat Glasgow (full video to follow shortly but click below for a short)

But more importantly, our 1xv got back to winning ways with a sound 32-7 win over Royal high School to finish 2024 4 pts clear of bottom club Trinity Accies with 5 games left to go
