Its March and the final home game for our senior side of season 2023/24

Firstly congratulations to Dalkeith RFC who won East Region League 2 following 36-16 win over Livingston last Saturday, we hope you enjoyed the celebrations into the evening.

A personal ask, As part of our Centenary Celebrations our centenary committee are collating a record of the club’s 100 year history. We want to be able to tell as detailed a story as we can but we can’t possibly do justice to the memories, time, commitment, energy, games, camaraderie and friendship across those 100 years without you!

We need you to supply us with any information, pictures, film clips, anecdotes, documents, memories or funny stories* which would be of interest to anyone associated with Penicuik Rugby – we want to capture tales from as many different people and across all eras.

Club president Gav McQuillan continues to lead the way for the 3rd week on the trot, however the gap is closing.  Will Italy prove too strong for Scotland and will Ireland put a cricket score up against England!!

Live Clubhouse Games

The clubhouse was buzzing on Saturday, a Scotland victory over England is always a special occasion.

We open this Saturday at 1:45 for a 2:15 ko for Scotland v Italy, then stay to see if England can end Irelands Grand Slam hopes

Youth Rugby

Last Saturday our U16’s joined forces with Murrayfield Wanderers and Leith to beat a strong Duns side 31-24 to qualify for the East Shield Semi Finals.

This Saturday the Murrayfield/Leith/Penicuik all star XV make the trip to Kelso for the Semi Final (10:30am KO). Good luck to all the Penicuik players involved and enjoy the experience

Our U14’s team up with Murrayfield Wanderers to play Dunbar with a 10:30Ko at Montgomery Park

This Sunday our Mini players are away to Dalkeith in a 11am ko, if players can be at kings park for 10:40.

There are no micro’s training on Sunday.

We’ve been bringing to life rugby skills through the popular tv series Gladiators.  Here’s a sneak at what some of our P4s have been up to

A Friday night under the lights seen Penicuik play their get out of jail free card with a interception by Doyle with 5mins to go securing a very hard fought win.

Penicuik struggled in both halves to get out of their own 22, with Livingston dominating scrums and rucks.  Facing a stronger forward pack, Penicuik tired to avoid breakdown situations and instead looked to move the ball over the gain line.

Freezing rain, and numerous penalties and injuries made this very a much a stop start game.  However a serious of rucks down the hill seen Adler cross the line to secure the 1st try.

Livingston, continued to batter the Penicuik defence were favorites for the win before Doyle intercepted to run unopposed to break Livingston’s hearts.

Next outing for the 1xv is the final xv game of the season away to Hawick Linden Friday 15th March at Volunteer Park

2xv

This Friday night our 2xv play the final XV home game of 2023/24 at home to Edinburgh Academics 3xv in what will be the 3rd attempt to play this fixture. kick off is 7:30pm

Last Saturday the 2xv were put to the sword by Watsonians 2xv 72-0. Watsonians are current 13-0 and on track to wrap up the EAST REGION RESERVE LEAGUE DIVISION 1.  Although facing a hammering (against a side who had a couple Super Six players in their XV), the 2xv stuck in well, with one supporter on the sidelines commenting the PRFC 2xv could give the PRFC 1xv a decent game.

Our Purpose

This year we are playing in the Premiership table (lets be honest, its the only league we have a chance of winning this year), points are earned as follows

In and around the clubhouse

Firstly some sad news, we regret to inform our members of the passing of member David Fletcher who tragically was killed in a car crash last week along with his wife Margaret.

Members will remember David from Friday nights in the club where he regularly played Pool with his croonies.

Congratulations to on/off 2xv player Calum Smith who recently celebrated his wedding to Ashley down at Dunglass Estate.  Thankfully former club captain Duncan Fell was on hand to lend some responsibility to the proceedings
