Calling all PRFC members – past or present. Your club needs you!

As part of our Centenary Celebrations we, Bobby Watson, Jim Watt, Ben Cartwright & Brian Doyle, are collating a record of the club’s 100 year history. We want to be able to tell as detailed a story as we can but we can’t possibly do justice to the memories, time, commitment, energy, games, camaraderie and friendship across those 100 years without you!

We need you to supply us with any information, pictures, film clips, anecdotes, documents, memories or funny stories* which would be of interest to anyone associated with Penicuik Rugby – we want to capture tales from as many different people and across all eras. Please share this post as widely as possible with anyone who has been part of our story. (*Further guidance on the sort of things we are looking for is included at the end of this post.)

We are aiming to produce;
> A 100 year timeline highlighting key events in our history

> High level storyboards for display in the club at an open day in May (date tbc)

> A digital archive in greater detail of original documents, photos etc to be stored on our website

To give us time to collate and incorporate all of the above in our open day, please send any contributions including details of any non digital items for collection (which will be returned) to history@penicuikrugby.org no later than the 18th March. (Any contributions received after this date will still be added to our digital archive).

How else can you help? We would love to grow our team for this task so if you would like to get involved in helping us produce this record of our history, please let us know via the above email address.

Finally, please remember to pass this request to anyone you know who was associated with Penicuik Rugby but is no longer in touch with us. We would love to reconnect with them. They are an important part of PRFCs history and will always be part of our rugby family.

Thank you in advance for your help to build the story of our shared history. Ben, Bobby, Brian & Jim

In no particular order, areas for your contribution are listed below. Please note we are building our database from records available to us but there will be gaps, don’t assume we will know / remember everything – we really need your help to fill gaps, cross reference and fact check.

> Key Achievements – Club success in league, cup, shield, 7’s tournaments (events, dates, results). This can be winning, losing finalist, gaining promotion etc

> International & District representation – Anyone associated with Penicuik Rugby who represented at International, District or Midlothian level (Senior or Youth). We are already aware of many representations.

> Playing Performance Stats – A comprehensive picture of season stats for each of our teams between 1924 & 2023. For each season; Games played, won, drawn, lost, points for, points against. By team the current gaps are:

Fourth XV – between 1966-67 to 2022/23
Fifth XV – there was a Fifths team at some point – any info you have is welcome

Appreciate 2nd to 5th XV’s may not have played every season, so let us know if you are aware of any season they did not play.

> Midlothian Ladies & Youth Rugby – please send any information you have on the history, performance stats, achievements, funny stories you have on any of these important parts of the club history.

> Pavilion – PRFC has been on a long journey from changing for games at Cornbank Farm to our current clubhouse. We would appreciate any stories or pictures that capture the key stages in this journey.

> Club Strips – There have been many versions of the club strip over the years, please send us digital photos of any version of the strip that you have (original red, white & blue, candy strips, lighting flash etc)

> Member Memories – we would love to capture your favourite memories & funny stories.

> What is your favourite PRFC memory?
> What did your association at PRFC mean to you?
> Who was the most interesting character(s) you knew & why? > What do you hope for the future of PRFC?

Bringing history to life – We hope to be able to persuade some contributors to be filmed talking about some of the above moments and memories for inclusion in the archives.
